OH. lawl. you made it sound difficult so i thought it was something else. naaahhh you basically just put your name along the bottom edge of a wallpaper and voila you're done. small size + unobtrusive color + simplistic font = no clashing.
[readmore] i don't divide hair by lit vs unlit but rather by approximate "chunks" as per the flow of hair. i do vector base shapes since that enables me to delete the scan right after (i dislike having that layer around) and to block in parts of the vector. the latter is helpful since i now like to start with facial skin, which is under the hair. however, by the end, notably for the hair, the heaps of layers i build on top more than covers the bases.
i lay colors starting from middle and in either direction. it has no consequence on the final outcome; i've simply kept this habit from my days of doing generic vectors where the very visible base colors are in between shadows and highlights in terms of brightness. i have done done dark to light before though...don't recall WHY lol
for his hair in Resolution, i worked at 100-200% zoom. yes, this is HIGHLY abnormal. i merely have too small a monitor to work with the canvas size that i chose and i wanted to see the overall look of things. for other parts, mostly 200-300%. i don't recommend other people doing this though(400-600 is normal).
the initial shapes for the bigger flying glowy bits, the lines and ring of the lens flare, and the irises are vectored. the flying bits glow due to gaussian blur and the smaller flying bits as well as the the soft glow of the lens flare were done with a soft brush. [/readmore]
the way i vector has no secrets or magical awesomeness. xP i simply sit on my butt a lot and stare at my monitor.
when you have something in the works (notice it's not IF you have), drop me a line on my userpage. and no prob for the essay replies. i do need reasons to procrastinate doing my lab reports and all that. 8)

wanting to wall is a great thing. (and if you do, you'll be the second person that i have pushed into walling by walling "Resolution"!) ah the adrenaline... when i was (a) young (waller), inspiration always struck around bedtime so i always spent a good while anxiously planning out how i'd wall the idea haha xD what do you mean by signature/tag though...? O:
now, i've written you an essay in return: [readmore] my anchor points come in pairs and the number of anchor points used varies from strand to strand. normally 4: 2 for tapered ends, 2 for curving the strand. but i get lazy so i use additional ones to tailor the exact curves after the 4 initial ones. also, there are some curves that just can't be done with 4, so i'd use more in that case too.
for the past year i've been doing lineless vectors. it was a personal choice. a lot of wallers do detailed hair with outlines and other characteristics of non-detailed vectors intact. i just prefer not to mix the two styles since i find outlines too limiting for how i do hair and visually incompatible with how i shade skin. getting strands this thin is a matter of patience and i start out with base colors right away. outlining would be a lot of effort for naught since i don't stay all that true to the original art when i go detailed.
when shading, i pinpoint my light source and i stare at my monitor and the 2D bases turn 3D and i trace what i see in my head. 8) i'm a pretty visual person. and yes, transparency wizardry is present; it makes color manipulation easier. but i do have more colors in there than your fingers and toes.
it is a common misconception that vectoring is better with a tablet but as far as i'm concerned, the tablet and stylus are better suited to the intuitive nature of painting while the mouse is more befitting for the precise control required to vector. so yes, i vector with a mouse. i've done it with my laptop's touch pad too, but i prefer using a mouse.
you know, maybe i will make a walkthrough of Resolution... [/readmore]

wow. it's been ages 8] beast? not really lol. the ranking thing really depends on which old wallers recently submitted walls. so for a good many months now i've been drifting about...9th to 15th. oh hey, if you average that out it does make #12. xD;
with the decreasing response rate to walls, the rating system's changed since the days of False Reality. it'd be A, A+ by the old standards, but yes, an S now. has been for a good long while. ah, so nostalgic. looking at it, the way i wall has changed SO much.

set your goals according to what you think you can accomplish. don't compare yourself to others. confidence in your own abilities first is very important. xP
[quote=dragonoflore]Is that a layer blur I see for the orb? How did you get the radiance glow around only some portions of the hand? <-- Photoshop Noob[/quote]
do you mean the rainbow effect or the faint blue glow? i think you mean the faint blue glow, so i'll answer your question under that presumption. there is no trick because i did it manually with a soft-edged brush. you just have to imagine the 3D contours in the 2D image and go with that to paint. i've had practice with an earlier wall. =]

thanks for the comment and fav =] now, when are you ever going to put all that knowledge to use and make a wall of your own? :P
5 years, 11 months ago
still trying to figure out the rating system? =P
here's something new for you: the favs a wall receives earlier on weighs more (in terms of upping the rating) than the favs received months after submission. at least that's what i've observed.

lol, i tried to make the markers look realistic with the gradual gray shading. (i did go look at some of my own markers just to make sure i was doing it right.) from your response, i'll take it that my shading worked xD

Oh no no no! blush
It's okey, it was my first impression of your comment but I am not sad all throughout. It's okey, really okey that I heard those comments from you.^^
If you are worried that I don't really feel like making a wall because of your comment no it wasn't the reason. I am just depressed now with things, not your comment.^^
I am touched by your thoughtfulness, I would humbly accept your stamp dragonoflore.^^
I don't really expect it to have a rating like that, but I am glad you think that would come to that.^^ Thank you!
Take care!

Hello dragonoflore!
I am glad that you took you time commenting my wall. Actually when I read your comment on my page I felt sad and hurt, well I did thought that you were just being honest. I really appreciate your honesty^^. I know that I didn't give my very best on that wall, like the one you pointed out with saber's shading and stuff. I can edit it, but I don't have the feeling to do something artistic as of now. But if I do update the wall, I would surely inform you! (If you don't mind).^^
Thank you coz you appreciate my work!^^

oh thanks a lot!!!... well i don't now tuts for that kind of coloring... it was just an idea... and i made it by myself... When i first started vectoring i used this tut... which is a common vectoring tutorial... http://www.ferricorp.com/public/forum/viewtopic.php?t=202That's the only thing that i have used to learn about vectors. Hope that helps you! kisses!!!

i actually agree with you on "intense", because i generally avoid bright colorful walls myself, although i've made some colorful walls. probably because when inspiration hits, i have to follow it to wherever it leads.
A rank...I hope it can make it. it has happened to my "roses" wall. about the commenting-no-fav thing though, i'm not sure how right my previous guess was. i've been thinking. see, my "roses" wall has 26 favs out of 51 comments. but my first "lemonade" wall has 28 favs, though only 40 comments. i thought that a 28 favs wall would have a higher rating than a 26 favs wall...but "roses" is A and "lemonade" is only A-. so maybe an A wall has to have a certain amount of comments. but if there are too many comments, the rating dips. it's a complicated theory based on fairly thin air -__- so i have decided to leave it up the system to work itself out. but still, thanks again. =]

i was...surprised and happy when i saw that you faved my meer wall. pleasantly surprised. (it's a C now, =] yay for the average waller. lol) and your "comment" thing was blank... so right now, i'm glad but a bit confused.
i mean getting a fav makes me feel good because i see that people not only care about what i do but also like what i do. but i thought you didn't fav non-scenic walls. might i ask what changed your mind after all that time?
anyway, thank you very much for the fav. :D (and ps, i can't believe i didn't realize what it sounds like when you add -ness instead of -ity. -__- smacks forehead you are way ahead of me.)

LOL wow your smart! Thank you for pointing out the perspective problem! I know why it is there because the original scan was from a more upward angle and I mistakenly took the rails for like a gate or something. I was going for more of a sideprofile so I guess I gotta change that thanx alot!

i appreciate your honesty and it's okay. the majority of my friends don't +fav my walls, so it really tests how well strangers like what i do. i mean i have a couple of friends who have faved quite a few, but generally, the people who save me from N/A ratings are not really well known to me. but since i don't generally do the mainstream trendy walls (pretty girl+heavely setting, or themeless vector brushing, stuff like that), it is hard most of the time to have my wall get popular. it'd be nice to be an above average waller, but i guess above average wallers can only exist if some other people be the average.
lol, you are like this other friend of mine. she insists that my walls are all awesome despite the range of ratings i get. * walks away with your stamp on my forehead* A-ity! normally the people i know like to add -ness to everything rather than -ity. :P

it's a D+, lol. too bad people just tell me "oh, it's so pretty! i love the colors!" and then no +fav. shrugs too many comments + too little favs = low rating. when one is nothing but an average waller, the rating thing can really bring you to the ground if you don't have enough confidence in yourself. i try not to care. but admittedly, i'm at the point where i'd be happy if my wall got a C. that's sad, considering how well i started out walling all those months ago... ;_;

heres a vectoring tut that my friend gave me ^-^ I still havent been able to use it (she gave it to me recently) but its very detailed, and so far it sounds like a really good tutorial. Trust me, the work is worth it!
Heres the link --> http://www.ferricorp.com/public/forum/viewtopic.php?t=202
i know it says tracing tutorial, but its pretty much vectoring.
light tutorial coming soon ^-^
